Axe robbers' cash raid at MediaCityUK

Security van raided by axe robbers at MediaCityUKBUNGLING armed robbers fled with just £120 when they raided a security van at MediaCityUK today.

The Security Plus Ltd van, which carries out daily cash collections, was picking up library fines from the University of Salford.

It is believed to have been targeted by the four robbers, who had been waiting in a red and white 02 plate Mini Cooper.

Two of the men, who were all wearing balaclavas, approached the driver armed with an axe before fleeing with the concealed case.

One eye witness described “a trail of red debris” after the “case exploded in the car” as the robbers made their getaway.

Another eye-witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It all happened really fast. At first I thought it was a group of drama students filming a project as it's not something you would ever expect to see here.

“I saw two men dressed in balaclavas with their hoods up approach the driver with an axe and immediately get away with the package."

Police arrived within minutes after being alerted by MediaCityUK security who saw the incident unfold on CCTV.

A security guard described the episode as "one of the most unprofessional jobs the police have ever seen."

He added:“They (the robbers) are now running round like Oompa Loompa's covered in red dye.”

Nobody was hurt in the attack.
