      Bands busk for cancer

Busk for Cancer TWO talented cover bands joined forces to raise money for Cancer Research UK in Morley Green, Wilmslow.

Select Committee and Loose Change took part in ‘Busk for Cancer’ to help raise £378 with generous donations from those attending the gig.

Busk for Cancer’ is the musicians’ section of cancer Research UK. With over 2,000 artists signed up, including Newton Faulkner, £120,000 has been raised through the four year-old project.

Together, Select Committee and Loose Change have raised just under £26,000 for the charity and do not intend to stop.

Lead Singer of Select Committee, John O’Connor, is a strong supporter of the project. He said: “Being part of raising £26,000 in four years is a real honour. Busking Cancer.Org is unique but not exclusive and is open to all musicians of every style and ability.”

He added: “Whether you’re stood in the street, busking alone or with a group of troubadours or forming a full equip band doing pub or club gigs as we do, just go online and register with BuskingCancer.Org and go for it.”

Lead singer, Bernard Dolan and percussionist, John Fogel, of Loose Change are both ambassadors for Cancer Research UK. They formed the band when buskingcancer.org held a national ‘Busk for Cancer Week’ over two years ago.

Many of Bernard’s friends have been affected through the terminal illness. He said: “If in some small way we can help to find improvements to the treatment, then great. I’d hope in time there’s a cure.”
