VIDEO: Palestinian Party raise awareness in Salford

Quays News POLITICAL party Fatah held an event at Peel Hall to raise awareness about the Palestinian cause.

Linda Clair sells traditional Palestinian pottery to raise money for the various organisations she supports, one being the Women’s Organisations for Political Prisoners.

Linda said: “It's a group of Palestinian women who have an organisation and who support Palestinian women who are in Israeli prisons because nobody provides for them”.

The families of these women are not in a position to provide things for them and often can’t get to visit them in prison due to checkpoints. Funds raised help pay for female lawyers to go to prisons to prepare court cases in an attempt for the women to get a fair trial.

Doctor Hisham Ghanayem, a member of Fatah and one of the organisers of the event, explains the key message he would like non-Palestinians to learn: "Palestine is not all about misery and sadness and struggle. We have culture, we are people."

The day was filled with Palestinian food and music, with the hope of raising awareness of the culture of Palestine, but also, it's struggle.

Laila Issa reported on the event where she also spoke to to Sir Gerald Kaufman, MP and campaigner for Palestine.
