Height Heroes were out in force on Saturday with an organised litter pick on Bolton Road, Salford in hopes of tackling the cities rising litter problem.

Lindsay Barrett, secretary of Friends of Lightoaks Park, discussed the importance of working together as a community to tackle the litter problem in Salford.

A great result at the end of the day.

The event, which took place on Saturday was the beginning of many that Height Heroes is hoping to organise in and around the city.

Catriona Swanson, founder of Height Heroes, said:

“There’s a lot of people in the community that want to do this kind of thing, it just took someone to go, yeah let’s organise it.

“A lot of people do it anyway, it’s just nice to come together as a group.”

Volunteers on the day.

Each event takes place on the third Saturday of every month and is posted on their Facebook page with a poll to decide which area of Salford the community wants clearing up next.

Catriona Swanson said: “Bolton Road won by a country mile this time.

”It is our high street, we knew we would have to do different sections at a time.”

Many different groups from the Salford community are offering to work in partnership with Height Heroes. Including the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, who offered to tackle some of the subways around the city.

Lindsay Barrett said:

“Younger children and other members of the community are coming together.

”It feels like it is organic that out of the community comes more ideas and more inspiration.

“It’s like a ripple effect and it grows.”

Height Heroes began after the success of the Clean up Claremont event on 24th March 2018.

This event was part of the Great British Spring Clean Campaign, organised by Friends of Lightoaks Park.
